As I left my class tonight working with a terrific group of soon to be graduates of Baruch College's Weissman Center-- it was a monsoon!
Like any New Yorker---when you need a taxi, they are no where to be found.
As I walking to the subway with my umbrella inside out--I spotted a taxi with the 'off duty' sign on--- and it was in front of a coffee shop. I figured I have nothing to lose-- so I walked in and the driver was at the counter and I said to him--" Could I wait for you and then become a passenger?"-- he said "Yes " and that no one had ever followed him into a coffee shop for a fare.
Happily I bought his coffee and was soon on my way home with a smile on my face.
Like I say in any situation--'take the initiative' and in this case, I am glad that I did!
Andrea -- I constantly find inspiration in your innovative ideas!

I wish I had thought of that the last time I was in New York City.... I was DRENCHED and eVERY taxi was occupied. Eventually, it became humorous to my friend and I.... eventually... =) =)
